7 Ways to Become a more Authentic Person

Maybe I’m just a product of my generation, but I read self-help books, and I work on my “baggage.”

I know someone somewhere reading this may think that my generation, and the one following—the millennials—are a little too self-centered for our own good.

And, people who think that may also consider “me-centered” as selfish, disrespectful, and rude.

I get it. This is the generation that made reality television a thing and has elevated people to stardom who may not have much talent or skill. I can really see why an older generation would look at us and shake their heads.

But, here’s what’s wrong with that line of thinking:

As young women, we were raised not to think of ourselves. We were told to put others first and take care of ourselves last. Every message we got growing up taught us that our value lies in who we are to other people.

Our perceived worth lies in those relationships, and in how we look, how we present ourselves, and how quietly and respectfully we interact with the world around us. We’re told that we should keep our legs together, but not be a prude. We should plan our dream wedding, our two children (one of each sex), and we should clock in and out of church the way we do work. We should cook and clean and take care of our children, even if we’re holding down full-time jobs. And, we should just pass the man the beer.

We should sacrifice for our families and never make time for ourselves. And, we shouldn’t love our bodies. Because how will we feel bad enough to buy the stuff that the advertisers need us to keep buying? We need to look younger, be firmer, thinner, have more cleavage, display our curves—but not too much—or we’re asking for it.

And as for young men? The message is to “man up, “grow a pair.” And, “boys don’t cry.” After all, you’re the man of the house, the breadwinner. Take care of your families. Play sport. Do manly things. Drink beer. If you give a hug, accompany it with a manly back slap.

Don’t express feelings…except anger. Anger is an okay feeling to show. Don’t cry. And, it’s okay to sleep around and equally okay to hold a double standard that says women shouldn’t. Rape culture is the locker room talk they many men up with and the talk on the street, in classrooms, and at home. Catcalling and ass grabbing and “she’s asking for it.” Be competitive, work harder, and chase women.

But, we grow up, and a lot of us see that what we were taught to be and who we actually are, are vastly different things.

Yes, we start turning the focus in on ourselves. But, our focus isn’t about being selfish or narcissistic. Instead, we work to undo the things that we’ve learned have hurt us. We investigate our thoughts and feelings and trace them back to the source, to those messages that told us who we are and who we should strive to be, and we start to dismantle them.

We take better care of ourselves so that we can take care of our families and contribute to society as full, functional, happy, and healthy human beings, rather than automatons who function purely on what we were told to think and feel and do.

We’re not about being spectacularly selfish. Instead, we’re trying to become the people we really are, and we’re doing it when society tells us to be quiet, sit down, and follow the crowd. We’re the social justice warriors and the dreamers and the people with the vision to know that the world has the capacity to be a better, happier, and more peaceful place.

By un-learning all of the lessons that taught us that we weren’t enough, we learn how to give of ourselves in a way that makes us whole, rather than depletes our precious energy.

But how? How do we begin to dismantle the self we were told to be, and become the ones that we are?

We listen to our intuition. Our intuition is that quiet sense of what’s right for us and what’s not. It may not seem rational or logical, but it always knows what we need. Sometimes, we have to be quiet and still inside of ourselves to truly be able to hear it.
We stop listening to that critical voice in our heads. Yes, that one. The one that says we’re not enough or we’re too much. The one that undermines our confidence and reinforces our fears. That voice is the voice of others who have spent their lives judging and assigning roles and spreading fear. Maybe it’s the voice of authority figures or family members or our culture. It says no and don’t and can’t, and it doesn’t serve our souls.
We make a list of the priorities of our lives on one side and our actual daily schedule on the other. We compare the lists. Are the things we want in life, our deepest priorities and dreams, showing up in what we actually do on a daily basis? If not, there are changes we need to make.
We need to pay attention to cognitive dissonance. If we only ever believe the things we want to and the only truth that we hear is the one we like hearing, there’s something wrong. We need to be equipped to take in new information. We can’t adapt if we’re not willing to look at our own behaviors and call out the undesirable ones. We can’t make the changes we need if we don’t stay open to the world around us and the feedback we’re getting, not only from the people around us, but by the experiences the universe sends our way. We need to make sure that we are receptive to the truth even if it’s unpleasant for us and requires hard work to make changes.
We can seek professional help. There’s a stigma around that statement. Even I could hear it echoing around the words “professional help” as I wrote them. But, we don’t treat ourselves for medical problems, typically. And, we let mechanics work on our cars. We trust professionals for a variety of tasks, and yet we’re so reluctant to reach out and say that we need help to work through our baggage.
We can learn to accept ourselves. I just listened to Sounds True’s Self-Acceptance Summit, and I loved every moment of it! The overriding message was that we need to accept who we are, to be body positive, and to really practice the love, compassion, and forgiveness that we so easily give to others with ourselves. We won’t be happy when we lose 20 pounds or when we run that marathon or when we get the promotion we want or have the next child. We won’t be happy as long as we’re chasing a set of circumstances rather than loving our lives as they are right now.
We can meditate every day, even if it’s only for five minutes. Get quiet. Get still. Listen. How can we know who we are if we never stop and listen?
We’re not a selfish generation, at least not entirely. So many of us are working hard to dismantle the armor we were told to wear so that we can find our truest, most vulnerable selves.

We’re removing the layers and finding others. At the heart of it all is this love for our lives and for humanity that can’t get out as long as we’re wrapped in layers of should and can’t and don’t.

Gaia is ascending along with all who are prepared for the shift into higher dimensional energy – Marilyn Raffaele

SEPTEMBER 10, 2017

Dear ones, we come today to speak of love and the ramifications of its denial and suppression. Love is the cohesive energy of all things and is omnipresent, but until realized and acknowledged as such, can appear to be nonexistent. Never forget that you are creators.

The world holds a multitude of concepts regarding love, all reflective of varying belief systems. However, even the most dense and unawake state of consciousness cannot change the fact that love is and can only be all there is. Love is the energetic glue that binds all living things together within ONE whole.

This is the reason love is sought on all levels by all souls even in its most distorted forms and often through any means. Even the terrorist believes he is making the world a better place for those who agree with him. Everyone seeks the acceptance and love of oneness that lies innate within, but is only able to interpret this inner yearning according to their attained level of awareness.

Gaia is ascending along with all who are prepared for the shift into higher dimensional energy that has begun. Gaia is a living soul, consciousness, who has lovingly served all upon her with gifts of beauty, abundance, and love. Because much of mankind continues to consider Gaia to be simply dirt, with resources to be misused and abused for personal gain, she has chosen and is ready to make her own ascension.

Fires and floods are some of the ways Gaia has of clearing many layers of old dense energy reflective of spiritual ignorance. She has carried them for eons and is choosing to release them. She, as well as all upon her, cannot carry old and dense energy into that which is higher and lighter, thus the need for the releasing and clearing of cellular memory so many are experiencing at this time.

All mankind must realize that the planet was never created for people to selfishly use and abuse. The idea of “dominion over” was the result of many mistranslations of the word “shepherding” long ago. It is time for all to understand that everyone, all life forms as well as Gaia herself, are in and of the One Divine Consciousness while never excluding self from this totality through some false sense of unworthiness.

It is a time of change for everyone, for the awakened as well as the un-awakened. Long established manifestations of duality and separation are being exposed and dissolved by the ever increasing presence of high dimensional frequencies. Light will always serve to expose the shadow much as the shining of a flashlight into dark corners illuminates what was previously unseen.

Personal tragedy is often the only way some people will wake up and shift out of a comfortable but un-aware state of consciousness. You are witnessing this with the the fires and floods. Weather events need not always be so destructive, but because humans are ignorant of their creative abilities, they elaborate, discuss, and fill the atmosphere with fear and dire predictions whenever these occasions arise. Remember always–you are creators.

There will be no destructive weather conditions once universal consciousness is enlightened with the truth of oneness between each other and God for the energetic source and substance of these things (the belief in separation from peace, harmony, completeness etc. ) will no longer exist. The idea of destructive weather does not exist in Divine Consciousness.

All spiritually ready must let go of their outmoded but comfortable false belief system. Wake up calls can be very painful, but are often necessary in order to rouse a reluctant soul into the next phase of his spiritual journey. All on earth came to learn, spiritually grow, and assist in the world’s ascension not to simply rest back in the illusions of personal sense.

Some (not everyone) presently suffering from great loss lived from a sense of separation believing themselves to be better than, less than, more evolved, more worthy, etc. than everyone around them. To suddenly find themselves in the same situation as those they felt superior or inferior to, is providing profound attitude adjustments and spiritual growth for those who would not of otherwise been receptive to ideas of connection and oneness.

You are witnessing the dissolution of many forms of old energy and are beginning to understand and accept that only by allowing change can the world ascend into its higher reality. We speak of these things in order that you can more fully understand that everything taking place on earth right now is a part of this process.

Hold your Light and flow this Light to Gaia and all who live upon her, for Light is the frequency that dissolves the shadow. Be the Light.

What is this Light we speak of and how do we send it? Light is the manifestation of high frequency energy. Divine Consciousness, Source, is pure diamond Light unable to be viewed with human eyes. The closer a soul gets to vibrating as its Divine Self, the faster and higher (lighter) the vibration. As you become ever more enlightened, your whole energy field begins to vibrate with lighter and brighter colors.

As your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies begin to vibrate with increasingly higher frequencies, the slower, heavier, vibrations become easily recognizable in comparison which is why certain places, people, books, films, foods, etc. that you may have always enjoyed, suddenly no longer resonate in the same way.

To send Light means acknowledging the true nature of another no matter how deeply it may be hidden. To hold the Light means resting in the Light of your true self. When you do this or send Light to a person or place, visualize golden/white Light. Have no specific purpose other than to send and enfold another with high resonating Light because Light is conscious and knows what is needed far better than some human concept. Light is not sent to fix something but rather to illuminate and release the hidden perfection already present.

Be open and receptive. You may become aware of colors or a crystalline effect. Different energies appear with different colors. If more love is needed you may become aware of rose, pink colors. If healing of some sort is needed, you may become aware of aquamarine/greens. Allow the visualization to unfold without trying to “make something happen” and always with the intention to serve in the highest and best way for all involved.

Send Light to the so called “leaders” and authority figures of the world. Send it to all those who are suffering whether it be of their own making or from circumstances seemingly beyond their control. Visualize and send Light to Gaia and all her kingdoms, recognizing and acknowledging their Divinity.

Be the Light in every conversation and activity regardless of how seemingly mundane through the realization that all activity is spiritual activity, none more spiritual than another. Live, move, and have your being in and as who and what you really are. This is healing work and is how you bring more Light to a world hungry for it. .

Light work does not require you to engage in rigorous activities and thought taking other than pure intention and an active resting in a consciousness of truth. Rites and rituals were necessary at one time and still are for those new to energy and awakening, but you who are drawn to these messages have arrived. Rites and rituals only serve to keep one in a sense of separation.

There is no harm with the small rituals you love, like lighting candles, holding favorite crystals etc. but a false sense of separation is kept alive when individuals believe they need these things in order to be spiritual or to do their inner work and that it cannot be accomplished without them.

The head of an arrow often generates heat and burns. Regardless of appearances in your lives hold fast to that which you are, will be, and always have been– Divine Beings having human experiences. This is why you are on earth at this sacred and powerful time.

This is the work and you are ready for it whether you feel you are or not. You are the hope, the first wave of ascension preparing the way for those following.

With much love, respect, and appreciation for your willingness to experience and grow in order to assist others–

The Dark Night of the Souls

The-Dark-Night-Of-The-Soul-2

Our lives will represent the rising of the phoenix if we allow it. Out of the fire and ashes of our crash and burn lives, we are offered a new beginning.” ~ Taking Off The Mask

Much has been written and will be written about the Dark Night Of The Soul, and it can be confusing in understanding what it really is. There are many interpretations, yet five basic characteristics seem to be the foundation of a dark night…

5 Foundations of the Dark Night

1. Alignment With Authentic Self

The Dark Night Of The Soul is the process of aligning/integrating with who we really are; our true essence, our Authentic Self. It is the part of us that is Creator also, the essence that is in us and that we are also wholly in.

The Dark Night is our own, personal evolutionary curve of untangling and detaching from that which is unlike our Authentic Self. The more we evacuate what is not our Authentic Self, the more space is provided for its presence. We become more aligned with our true nature, our true direction and a better quality of life. The process of stripping down what is unlike ‘Who We Really Are’ has always been in motion, yet at much greater speed nowadays.

2. Decompression

Our detrimental emotions and their sources are energy packets, take up energetic space and put a choke-hold our on quality of life in many different ways.

Now imagine that everyone on the planet has their own load of detrimental emotions (and other non-beneficial energy packets.) That is a mega-load of negative energy that we are all wallowing in (picture a can of sardines) and why we can feel bound up, blocked, stuck and just not able to move thru life like we know we can.

When negative energy is exceptionally dense and packed together, there is not much room to move around and we bump up against each others’ negativity. When one person is in their Dark Night and heals just one negative thing, more expansive, fluid space is not only created for that person but for everyone.

It is like taking one sardine out of that crowded sardine can. There is decompression and more room in the can. So the more everyone gets onboard the healing train, the greater the collective evolutionary pace and the freer we all become.

3. Crisis In Consciousness

Dark night of the soul can be described as a crisis in consciousness, literally. It is the conscious experience of that which was once in the subconscious and/or stored in the physical body and has bubbled up for recognition. And that bubbling is not feel-good stuff and can create a cornucopia of crisis in our conscious life. These migratory packets of pain/fear will be screaming for attention:

Hey! Over here!
I don’t feel good. Will you help me out?

We have to deal with it or remain stagnant. Our subconscious and physical bodies are the storehouse of all memories, thoughts, emotions, collective subconscious etc. Lots of stuff is in there.

Anything that we have ever experienced lies in that great vault, and it drives our every waking moment. We just think we are in charge and that our conscious mind is directing the show. The conscious mind only receives direction and information from whatever has the greatest and most fluid access in any given moment.

It is either our Authentic Self or the subconscious at the wheel.

The Dark Nights help us clean out the subconscious so we are more in flow with our Authentic Self.

4. Exquisitely Excruciating

Going thru a dark night really, really gets our attention. Never a pleasant experience and usually brings us to our knees. If you haven’t been brought to your knees yet, then the first dark night is still lurking and waiting for a signal that you are ready to handle the contents of the broken egg.

Manifestations of a dark night can include myriad emotional and physical symptoms to numerous too list here. Simply put – if it doesn’t feel good on any level, the dark night is upon you. Well damn, you say, most everybody doesn’t feel great or is going thru some crap at the moment. Are all of us in a dark night?

Hopefully.

5. Not Just One Night

Dark nights may go on for one day or years. Do not fall into the trap of believing that it is a one-time event and then bam! you’re done. Some teachings may describe it as an extreme mystical experience that will set you free for all eternity and, again, that may be wishful thinking.

It is all about bringing non-beneficial emotions, memories and programs to the surface for recognition, love, cleaning and integration. Now there could be mystical adventure as we work thru the dark night, and usually is, but it is mostly about working out the mystical and subconscious in the conscious, 3-D physical life.

And the working out and working thru a dark night will thrash you around in sooo many different directions that your head will spin. By the time you get to the other side of each Dark Night you will have subtracted a lavish and overflowing amount of detrimental debris from All That You Are! You will be closer to integration with your Authentic Self.

After you have been thru an episode pat your self on the back and say thank you. Then stand back and wait for the next round. You progressively become better equipped to handle the next successive servings. And the very next serving will rise to meet you, respectively and equally, in your better-equipped consciousness.

Batter up!

Simple in definition. Lifetimes to accomplish.
